Celebrating Big Night Out XIV

JJ Samoan Dancers

JJ Cahill Memorial High School hosted the 14th spectacular Big Night Out. It was another great success with students and teachers showcasing their hard work and dedication to the Performing Arts. Students from Mascot Primary School, Gardeners Road and Eastlakes attended as guests to the matinee performance, getting to experience the talents of students first hand whilst building an atmosphere of excitement for the performers.

This excitement continued into the evening as the night opened with a formal Acknowledgment of Country with Laura Vinaisi and Jace Morris Ruka welcoming guests and performers to the school. This acknowledgement echoed the NAIDOC assembly and activities the school participated in the previous day.

From the Year 7 Choir’s rendition of ‘Count on Me’ by Bruno Mars to the JJ Dancers' awesome final act celebrating Samoan culture; from Year 9 taking to the stage with amazing singers to the Year 10s outstanding powerhouse performances and much much more, audience members were supremely entertained throughout the night . In their final year of schooling, our Year 12 Drama students took to the stage to perform their self-devised HSC piece “Birth of a Nation”. A witty look at the birth of the Capital, earning thunderous applause and a lot of laughs. Special mention to all the crew supporting performers from backstage and the sound desk, a group composed of fantastic students across a number of years.

In addition to the music and drama performances, the JJ Art Exhibition was again on show with Visual Art teachers, Ms Jessop and Ms McInnes, working hard to showcase the tremendous talent of our art students. On show were the ceramic Portrait Planters of Year 7, the Pop Art works of Year 8, the drawing, 3D art and photography of Stage 5 students and the incredible works from Years 11 and 12.

A special THANKS to Mr Lim-Klumpes and Mr Hooper who, again, dedicated their time and effort to organising, performing and hyping up the event. To Ms McInnes who designed and shared her promotional art ability with our posters. To Mr Truss, without whom no one would have been able to eat delicious interval sausages and chicken skewers. To Mr Mifsud and Ms Batista De Mello for their efforts in supporting the event. And to ALL teachers & SLSOs who gave their time to support the students and community of JJCMHS - you are numerous, recognised and powerful.

Overall, Big Night Out is the premier event of JJ Cahill Memorial High School, and as always is a huge achievement for students, parents, staff and the community. Lastly, on the night - you, our community showed up and demonstrated your support of our students and staff. This is felt and greatly appreciated. We can’t wait to see you again soon for future Big Night Outs and other exciting events already in the works.
