During Years 11 and 12, students will focus on the health of individuals and communities and the factors that influence movement skills and physical activity levels. The PDHPE course involves students learning about and practicing ways on maintaining, active, healthy lifestyle and improving their health status. It is also concerned with the social and scientific understandings about movement. This course will develop student’s ability to:
Research and inquire about health issues
Define issues, identify and consider the outcomes of possible solutions
Choose, implement and evaluate courses of action
Resolve conflict, assert rights and access social support.
The PDHPE syllabus also supports students as they develop into young adults. It encourages personal growth, the enhancement of wellbeing and the development of the individual's capacity to take a productive role in society.
Community and Family Studies explores life issues that are important to all young, including components of family studies, sociology and students’ general life experiences. There is particular focus on skills in resource management that enable people to function effectively in their everyday lives, in families and communities.
Community and Family Studies develops students’ knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to effective decision-making leading to confidence in solving problems and managing everyday life. Research is an integral component of this subject. Students will be required to develop and utilise research skills in planning, collecting, recording, interpreting, analysing and presenting as they employ various research methodologies to complete and Independent Research Project.
Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation enables stage 6 students to build upon their learning in Years K-10 PDHPE. Specifically, it focuses on those aspects of the learning area that relate most closely to participation in sport and physical activity.
Students’ will develop their knowledge and understanding of the value of physical activity, increased levels of movement skill, competence in a wide range of sport and recreation contexts and skills in planning to be active. The course features a highly practical focus: physical activity being both an area of study and a medium for learning.
